This application note explains how NIRLab and MX908 address two distinct but complementary drug identification needs in the field. NIRLab provides fast bulk drug identification and on-the-spot purity reporting for common substances such as cocaine, methamphetamine, THC, heroin, and MDMA, while MX908 uses High-Pressure Mass Spectrometry (HPMS) to identify fentanyl, nitazenes, orphines, and other threats at trace levels. Together, the technologies give law enforcement a more complete field identification capability, from everyday bulk drug encounters to invisible trace residues and emerging synthetic threats.
