Recently, our ThreatID portable FTIR device played a surprising role in a local drug bust. A drug dealer was allegedly using a stolen ThreatID device to test his drug supply, unaware of the device’s remote monitoring capabilities.  Each analysis that the drug dealer conducted was automatically uploaded to the device’s cloud-based TeamLeader app, complete with GPS coordinates. This information allowed the rightful owner—a law enforcement agency—to obtain a warrant, recover the device, and make an arrest.

ThreatID is a portable FTIR device capable of rapidly detecting and identifying over 28,600 unknown chemical threats, including gases, vapors, powders, and liquids. It requires no calibration when switching between different sampling modules, and its rugged design ensures reliable measurements even in harsh environments. The device’s interactive on-screen prompts make it easy to use, guiding operators through each step of the sampling process.

We’re relieved that our ThreatID is back in the right hands and commend the swift action taken by local law enforcement. This incident underscores the power of ThreatID’s remote monitoring feature and its user-friendly design.

Once samples are collected, results can be instantly uploaded to the TeamLeader mobile app via Wi-Fi. This allows for remote viewing and analysis, enabling users to make informed decisions quickly, even from a safe distance. The app includes access to the ThreatAssist database for further research on a wide range of chemical compounds.

At 908 Devices, our mission is clear: to deliver smart, fast, and easy-to-use chemical analysis tools that empower every operator. We’re proud that ThreatID continues to demonstrate these values, even in the most unexpected situations.
