Three Spencer police officers exposed to substance transported to hospital in hazmat situation
A New Jersey man was arrested Thursday night after a police stop led to a hazmat situation that sent three Spencer police officers to the hospital.
Spencer police said they pulled Scott Yerger, of Westwood, N.J., over for a traffic stop and found a bag of drugs in his car.
Police said they received 911 calls that the 48-year-old Coram/CVS Health executive was driving erratically with the door open on his rental car.
“He said there was a conspiracy by the government. He made a lot of irrational, indifferent statements about the vehicle that, in fact, weren't true,” Spencer Police Department Sgt. Randy Berg said.
Investigators said they found a white, powdery substance on Yerger that was later determined to be crystal meth.
When two officers began feeling dizzy and nauseous, they ordered a Level 1 hazmat situation at the Spencer Police Department.
Three officers and Yerger were taken to hospitals, treated and released.
Yerger's attorney said he works in Massachusetts and commutes from New Jersey.
